The buzz around Ford’s up and coming Bronco Sport, also known as the 2021 Bronco’s mini me, continues, with Ford Authority now lifting the lid on the liftgate, which sources say will open upwards! Very reminiscent of the Wrangler, and a deviation from Mamma Bronco’s regular door-style, side-opening rear gate.
Hatching the plot
But that’s not all. The liftgate’s rear glass will ALSO flip open, which means you can get your mustard yellow duffel bag out without having to open the entire hatch!
A minor detail, sure, but ain’t nobody got time to go through such an elaborate process to extract items from the back anymore, not when there’s so much Netflixing to do (which you can on the horizontal infotainment touchscreen that’ll apparently come with Sport!).
You didn’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out either. The spy shots show clearly visible hinges and the windshield wiper mounted on the glass panel at the rear. Didn’t spot that? Back to cluedo for you, friend.
Sweet ruggedness of mine
Ford Authority have also hinted at a four-wheel independent suspension, ditto Escape, indicating a more rugged, yet still very much accessible, tarmac-kissing ride. Two-birds, one-stone and all that.
When will Ford announce the Bronco Sport? Your guess is as good as ours. But if they’re smart, they’ll probably have it ride in on Mamma Bronco’s jet stream in July’s reveal. That would be a win-win for Ford, surely.
Word on the street is that the Sport will be offered with three grille designs: “Modern” “Classic” and “Custom”, as well as a choice between a 1.5L 3-cylinder and a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, delivering 181 and 250 HP respectively.
When can we expect it?
Apparently, crash and final testing model production is already underway at Ford’s plant in Hermosillo, Mexico, however we probably have to hold our breaths a little while longer as the actual production launch has been pushed back to September because of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, all we’ve got to go on with this are some spy shots and the usual hearsay.
Are you excited about the Ford Bronco Sport? What other features would you like to see on it?
