Detailing. Glorified car wash? Not according to Sergio Garcia.
Born and raised in Maryland, Sergio began his detailing journey at the tender age of 22. And in 2018, he ventured into business for himself. And Garcia Brothers Mobile Detailing was born.
Mikaniki went behind the scenes with the man himself – for a scoop on why you should get your car detailed, what goes into a (professional) detailing job, clients of interest and dream detailing projects. Give it up for Sergio!
“Car detailing is much more than just a machine car wash…”
I’ve always had a passion for cars. My father owned a Corvette and a Porsche when I was younger – he had me detail to maintain them.
I then went to college for 4 years – to study business. And stopped detailing for a while. After college, I struggled to find work – which led me back into detailing with a friend’s business.
I realized I could do a more professional job on my own. And so started my own company with my brothers – Garcia Brothers Detailing.
Car detailing is much more than just a machine car wash – which, despite being quick, easy and cheap, are aggressive and will scratch into the clearcoat of your car’s paint.
Most professional detailers – including myself – hand wash everything with microfiber wash mitts and towels to ensure scratch free finishes in the paint.
Detailing is cleaning and protecting…not just the exterior – but the interior as well. Waxing, polishing, conditioning, protecting, and deep wheel cleaning are just a few of categories that fall into detailing.
Before each detail, we examine to see which parts of the car need extra attention. Then:
Then:
Lastly:
Phew.
We’ve had all kinds of clients approach us. From Real estate agents, loan officers, police officers. To athletes, entrepreneurs, and many others.
All of our clients are interesting in their own way. Most of them are kind, but every once in a while there can be one that gives us a hard time.
That’s ok because this is a business and we treat every client the same way we would want to be treated.
Mercedes Benz C63 coupe – because of its looks and the interior designs.
As a detailer, German cars are the easiest and most satisfying to detail because their interiors are made with such luxury – from the thick carpets, to the upgraded upholstery, and quality leather seats.
I would like to detail a Lamborghini Aventador – it has always been a dream car of mine and is one of the more expensive cars on the market.
Growing up, I always thought Lamborghini was one of the coolest cars in the world. We’ve yet to work on one – it would be a pleasure to see one rolling into our site!
