Car enthusiasts have lauded the VW Golf GTI since 1975. A feisty hot hatch with the license to thrill, giving generations of petrolheads endless driving fun, this sporty collectible is now in its eighth generation – coming to the UAE in April 2021.
Is it more powerful than its predecessor? Short answer – yes. The new eighth generation Golf GTI has raised the bar with its 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine delivering all of 245 HP.
More importantly, three-pedal enthusiasts will be delighted to know it comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission – so you can send the power of 245 ponies right to the front wheels.
For those who want to stick to two pedals – fear not. There’s a DSG dual clutch 7-speed automatic trim available for you.
The MK8 retains its familiar red accents – including a new LED bar running across the front grille. GTI-lovers will relish the classic twin tailpipes and red brake calipers – oh and tartan seats!
The MK8 marks a significant technological leap. Its packed with pioneering technology and features Volkswagen’s most advanced connectivity and driver assistance systems including an all-new digital dashboard for the modern folk.
A new GTI graphics layout for the standard Digital Cockpit has been developed with an active info display and it can be opened using the new View button on the steering wheel. App-Connect and wireless charging are also standard.
While all this fancy tech show that VW is keeping up with the digital age, the petrolheads will want to know: does the MK8 GTI stay true to its sporty badge?
Just ask VW’s technical chief. He reckons the MK8 is more of a ‘true GTI’ than the MK7. Enough said!
