Since Greta Thunberg side eyed POTUS, we’ve seen an uptake in eco-friendly initiatives driving automotive strategies across the globe. And Premium British-born car maker, Bentley, is leaning towards a greener future as laid out in its new Beyond 100 business strategy. Their aim? To take over the…sustainable luxury vehicle world!
So maybe Pinky and the Brain aren’t standing in their way, but the automotive giants certainly are on a mission with the new Betayga. According to Bentley HQ, they want this to be the most luxurious, versatile and fastest SUV in existence.
It is effortless performance married to everyday usability, with a choice of seating configurations and powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid that’ll surely do Bentley a lot of favours in trying to achieve their ultimate aim.
Entering the fray with a bang
It started in 2016, when Bentayga first emerged onto the SUV scene, and is now tried and tested with over 20,000 handcrafted examples, offering customers the ultimate GT experience, through rock or snow.
Go-anywhere driving ability and imperious luxury demarcate the original Bentagya’s finesse, delivering power and individuality in equal measure; it’s luxury without compromise.
Now, they’re set to raise the luxury SUV bar even higher in an inimitable sweep of pure performance goodness.
Another wave of luxury SUVs?
Back in the 60s, Land Rover (then Rover), were among the pioneers of a concept where a 4 x 4 could be more than just an off-roader for the odd desert safari. They wanted it to be a tarmac-kisser too. The result? The famous Range Rover.
Since then, there’s been an upsurge in the delivery of luxury SUVs, including the Porsche Cayenne, and the Lamborghini Urus to name a few.
And of course the VW Group hates to be left out of any party where they can dress a car up using every tech and toy it can find in its arsenal, to give you a transformer of sorts. The Bentayga is part Cayenne, part Q7, with a sprinkle of Urus and a sprig of Touareg. Yep, definitely Optimus Prime.
Why, you may ask? Because God doesn’t give with two hands and Bentley really does want it all. They want this to be THE fastest (faster than the Porsche), THE most luxurious (more so than the Audi), and THE best off-roader (better than the Urus), and you know what, when you really do go for it and make that bold a claim, chances are you may succeed. And succeed they have with the Bentayga.
Our take on it
We can’t really slate Bentley for their morals or lack thereof in throwing bits and bobs from its competitors into a melting pot, giving us the car equivalent of Keanu Reeves.
It’s a competitive world, and It’s fair game to take your competition’s parts and reconfigure into something unique. One could almost say it’s innovative. I’m sure Nikola Tesla wouldn’t agree, but in today’s climate you gotta do what you gotta do to stay on top of things.
We agree with Top Gear in that the original Bentayga is hideous (unlike Keanu Reeves). Seriously, you’ve got so much to play with and your interior still looks VW-ish?
They’ll have to really bring something beautiful out for this to compete with the likes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Yes, it’s got the makings of a top notch luxury SUV, but come on guys, get the looks right too! Unless they’ve got a bunch of Spurs fans, in which case we all know you like to win ugly…
Bentley are set to announce the new Bentayga on 30 June 2020 at 17:00 BST. We can’t wait.
