They’re dynamic. They’re engrossing. And their music has reverberated in the halls of many a home.
The Rock Gods from the Beyond have bestowed upon us the fruitful concoction of guitars, drums, bases and have sung their way to the bank.
Some may have splurged on enviable car collections, but some prefer to keep it on the DL. At least on the road.
Here are some rock stars and their cars.
Really Ozzy? Really? An R8? Is that the best you can do with all that eccentricity coursing through your veins?
Okay, let’s cut the guy some slack. Yes he rolls around Malibu in a low key white R8, but that’s not a bad choice for this rock star extraordinaire.
Its 5.2L V 10 engine still delivers an astonishing 525 bhp, and that’s no picnic. Although, don’t expect him to challenge any Supras or Skylines on the road.
He just wants to get from point A to point B with his thoughts and Sharon for company. Is that too much to ask?
Dubbed the Godfather of Heavy Metal, it’s safe to say that maybe the Oz-meister wants to blend in and steer away from the spotlight. Mission accomplished, sir. Mission accomplished.
He’s the man they call ‘slow hand’, but he’s certainly no slow poke behind the wheel (or on the fret board for that matter).
He’s jammed with the biggest names in show business, got plenty of lovers swooning with his hit track ‘wonderful tonight’ and his guitar playing precision is second to none.
Which is why it’s fitting that Ferrari would honour this guitar hero with his very own personalised Ferrari called the SP12 EC (Special Project Eric Clapton).
Essentially, Clapton wanted a Ferrari that paid homage to his favourite 512 BB (he has 3 of these in his garage), and so Ferrari took inspiration from the 512 and used the ‘regular’ 458 Italia as a base.
The result? A 4.5L 570 bhp V8 monster that may not be a BB’s flat-12, but try telling Eric that when he’s hitting 62mph in 3.2 seconds.
His name is Plant. Robert Plant. And his vocal range will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
A very British car for a top Brit, he certainly discovered the driveway to heaven aboard this outrageous 007 beauty.
Fun fact, it was Bond special effects expert John Stears who put the car on the map, modifying the DB5 for Goldfinger.
There’s nothing truly boastful about the specs. Standard 4.0 L engine, 282 bhp, and a 0 to 60 mph in 8s, you wouldn’t have one of these in your collection for speed and power, but who cares when your lady friends can sip margaritas in the backseat.
Another fun fact: the band took on the name Led Zeppelin after Paul McCartney ‘that band is going down faster than a Led Zeppelin’ boy he sure ate those words!
When you think of Bruce Springsteen, only two things come to mind. Freedom, Highway 66 and Jack Kerouac. Okay that’s 3, but you can break the rules when you’re talking about the Boss.
And yet, when it comes to his main choice of car back in the day, he went for a simple little black Corvette.
Not sure how he would escape The Man on 4.6 L and 275 bhp, but hey ho you simply can’t question the man who was born to run.
Seriously though, if you’re going to liberate the oppressed working class of the US of A, don’t you think a more powerful beast would issue a louder rallying cry?
Even if you haven’t a clue about carrying a tune, you’re sure to have come across something Bob Marley has sung at one point or another in your life.
That’s because this rock, reggae, transcendental legend united the world under ‘One Love’ with his stirring lyrical prowess and beautiful music artistry.
The man who puts chill in chillax carried an air of someone so relaxed and maxed out, he could be floating among the clouds.
And so it only makes sense that he would cruise along his native Jamaica aboard a 1976 Series 3 Land Rover, taking full advantage of the 70 horsepower delivered through a 4 cylinder engine to soak it all in.
And if he did need to carry it over a hill, no problem. His band of loyal followers would be delighted to help him push it up and over.
