Many of us have grown up dreaming of owning a Lambo.
We keep a close eye on every new release with anticipation, just to see what new slick model will emerge from the creative depths of Lambo’s design lab (who else thinks it looks like the batcave?).
Unfortunately, like everyone, Lamborghini’s factories have been silent during the pandemic.
We do, however, have some good news.
They’ve just said that production lines will reopen May 4th! Clearly, the Force is strong with the sports car supreme this year.
But wait. Hold that excitement. There’s more. Lamborghini have teased a new release tomorrow, May 7th! Although, they’re being pretty hush about the details.
All we have to go on with this one is what CEO Stefano Domenicali said:
“We continue to nurture the dreams of our fans and customers and on 7 May, through a virtual launch, we will present a new car in order to complete our model range.”
So basically, he’s keeping zipped, but that won’t stop us from speculating.
Let’s put our petrolheads together and guess what specimen’s being cooked as Lamborghini teases new release.
Ever since Lamborghini passed into VW’s ownership, they’ve had some seriously impressive firepower hitting the streets.
Of course we’re talking about the V-10 Huracán and the V-12 Aventador. These titans are built for speed and power, and the former even has a RWD variant.
What we can say with a fairly high degree of certainty is that the Aventador and Huracán’s ultimate successors will most likely be plug-in hybrids with a release date thought to be some time in 2022.
For the time being, as Lamborghini teases new release, we’re probably looking at a variant of the Aventador, Huracán or Urus coming out this Thursday. Let’s explore the possibilities.
Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse motorsport division is fabricating a hardcore version of the Aventador.
As awesome as it sounds, this track-only version with a late 2020 release date will be a limited edition, and so won’t be considered a part of its model range.
So far the Aventador already has four variants; the more powerful Aventador SVJ coupe and roadster, and the regular Aventador S coupe and roadster, and so adding another one seems highly unlikely.
Huracán is currently releasing its Evo line, with the AWD coupe and roadster, and the RWD coupe having already been unveiled.
However the open top version of the RWD coupe has not yet been shown off.
Since everyone likes a convertible, and with a lock-down-free summer around the corner, there’s a strong possibility that a new Huracán will have this feature.
The rumor going around was of a 640bhp, 5.2 litre V10 Huracán Super Trofeo Omologato, similar to the Huracán Performante but 150kg lighter, while actually borrowing upgrades from the Super Trofeo Race Car in the works.
If that was the case it would be simply incredible. Then again it could just merely be a fantastical dream.
Maybe, just maybe, Lamborghini will do a complete u-turn and give us something from the Urus lineup.
However, seeing as they’re successfully selling their Urus SUVs as fast as they can build them, it wouldn’t make sense to create another variant just yet.
They do, however, seem to be thinking of releasing a more powerful edition of the Urus similar to the Aventador SVJ further down the line.
If we had to hedge our bets we’d go for a RWD Huracán open top. Whatever the case, we’ll all be waiting expectantly to see what they unveil come Thursday (please be another super car).
So that’s that. They’re open for shop, and ready to give us our sports car fix. We’re waiting with baited breath as Lamborghini teases new release.
What do you think Lamborghini’s got lined up? Let us know!
