Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 is the latest luxury SUV offering from Mercedes, combining the luxury of a Maybach with the body of the GLS. They call is the S-Class among SUVs.

The interiors of the Maybach GLS 600 are built with high quality materials. Paired with the efficient sound insulation, you are in for a comfortable and relaxing ride.

All passengers get equal levels of comfort with an elevated seating position. Rear passengers also get electrically controlled sun blinders for the windows.

“The Mercedes-Maybach brand represents ‘Ultimate Luxury’ in its most contemporary, purest form. The brand’s style is embodied in sublime beauty, supreme aesthetics and elegance. In order to define the luxury of the future, we are taking the concept of Sensual Purity to the next level and transforming ourselves from a premium manufacturer to the world’s leading design brand.”

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer, Daimler AG

Ride Comfort and Handling

Thanks to, what Mercedes calls, the AIRMATIC suspensions (Standard) and the E-Active Body Control (optional extra), the ride in the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 is leveled and smooth. Absorbing road bumps and thus causing minimal disturbance for the passengers. This is achieved with the car’s ability to individually control spring and damping forces at each wheel, suppressing rolling, pitching and lifting movements.

The E-Active Body Control also helps reduce roll over while cornering by leaning into bends by up to 3°. This helps keep the SUV leveled and further increases passenger comfort.

Another technology is the Road Surface Scan function. This consists of two multi-purpose camera that continually records the road surface ahead of the vehicle. This is like a prediction system which checks and analysis the road ahead and prepares the suspension systems of each tyre to individually adjust to the surfaces ahead. Adding to the overall comfort.

You wouldn’t expect such an SUV to be used for off-roading, however Mercedes has included a recovery function, as part of the Off-Road drive program, which will help free the vehicle more easily if it gets stuck in sand. This is done by automatically raising and lowering the suspension several times, which alternately increases or reduces the ground pressure of the tyres and therefore improves traction.

Engine and Power train

The specs of the engine in the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 are:

  • 4 litre, V8
  • 558 hp
  • 730 Nm of torque

There is also a 48-volt EQ Boost System which temporarily provides an additional 250 Nm of torque and 22 hp.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 has a 9 Speed Automatic Transmission to help comfortably put all the power down from the tyres to the road, rather than into smoke.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 comes in seven different combinations of two-tone paint finishes. The wheels options are either 22 or 23-inch wheels.

Interior

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 has an array of interior options which include a supreme selection of wood finishes. Upholstery is finished in nappa leather with a range of leather detailing and cushion options. It also comes with the typical Mercedes Maybach detail, rosé gold piping on the white leather.

The panoramic sunroof comes standard along with climatised massage seats.

Mercedes-Maybach GLS comes with electrically extending running boards. They make accessing and leaving the high seating position both convenient and safe. When retracted, the running boards are concealed behind the side sill panels. If a rear door is opened, the running board for that side automatically swings into position in about one second. This can actually be customised via the MBUX infotainment system.

Obtainable on special request, the fixed centre console transforms the car into a spacious four-seater whose rear is just as suitable for working as for relaxing. This console is available with extending, folding tables, even a refrigerator with space for champagne bottles. Suitable silver champagne flutes for this are available from the accessories range.

Along with the MBUX infotainment system, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS comes with the Burmester surround sound system. The MBUX system has some special menus which can be controlled via the rear seats.

Safety

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 comes with many of the latest-generation Mercedes-Benz driving assistance systems included as standard.

Options include a package incorporating Active Stop-and-Go Assist and PRE-SAFE Impulse Side. One of the stand-out features of the Executive seat in the Mercedes-Maybach is the cushion airbag in the seat cushion. In the event of a frontal impact, it is designed to stop the rear passenger from sliding under the belt when the seat is in the reclined position.
