The red carpet was unfurled as high performance tires rolled across the fine velvet in the Middle East Car of the Year awards. It was the automotive Oscars as we know it, an occasion where glitz meets glam. All the favourites were in attendance, but it was Lamborghini that stole the show with victories across four categories.
We had the Di Caprios and the Denzels, with the V8 Urus, V10 Huracan and V12 Aventador SVJ sitting mighty in the front row, receiving all the plaudits for design quality, craftsmanship, handling, performance and technology.
Huracan EVO: the emotive yet controlled driving experience
The Huracan EVO, evolving to its most successful V10 powered model yet, stood out for its ability to anticipate and respond to the driver’s behaviour.
It makes for an emotive, yet controlled driving experience despite pumping out 640 hp, zipping from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3 seconds and hitting top speeds of 325 km/h.
Supercar of the year award for Aventador SVJ Roadster
Meanwhile, the Aventador SVJ Roadster took home the Supercar of the year award, making that 3 in a row for Lamborghini to complete an astonishing 3-peat.
The SVJ Roadster’s unique aerodynamic prowess provides optimal balance while carving corners, minimising drag to fully unleash the 770 hp V12 engine on straights, making this the most futuristic package yet.
Urus claims mid-sized SUV of the year award
When you think of an SUV, seldom would Lamborghini cross your mind. This was not the case at the awards, however, with the Urus claiming pole in the Best Midsized Performance SUV category.
The first of its kind, the Urus maintains the functionality of an SUV, but is very much a sports car at heart, giving drivers 650 hp of power through a solid V8 engine, top speeds of 305 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.
Performance Coupe Award for Huracan EVO Spyder
Finally, there was a glowing moment for the new kid on the block, as the recently released Huracan EVO Spyder came away with the Performance Coupe Award for convertibles. It saw off the competition to secure a stunning clean sweep for the Lambo family.
This top down variant of the Huracan enhances the raw thrill of driving, maintaining supreme performance with 640 hp delivered through a stellar V10 engine, peaking at 325 km/h and taking you from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 3 seconds.
