Today is Bronco day. Ford are bringing their beloved 4×4 back from the brink, in a move that’s sure to hit a few nostalgic chords and they want to make sure word is heard in every corner of the world. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a party without Jeep crashing it as they teased what appears to be a new Wrangler.
A war vet, the first 4wd, the John Cena of cars. You don’t need us to tell you just how amazeballs the Jeep Wrangler is. This is a car that’s become synonymous with off-roading, and has ignited some tasty 4×4 battles over the decades.
You can read more about the Wrangler in GOAT episode 2 here.
The stage is certainly set for another juicy tete-a-tete, with Jeep tweeting this image just two days before Bronco day. No words, because why need them when the pic says it all?
Okay, so maybe the pic doesn’t say it all. But it certainly gives us a lot to munch on. Let’s start with the “392” on the hood’s badge. For the average by-stander, that’s just a random set of numbers, but even for the rookie petrolhead, this says a hella lot.
The “392” means we’ll be seeing a 6.4L Hemi V8 engine beneath the Wrangler’s hood. Sound familiar? It should, this very same engine can be found in 392 versions of the Charger and Challenger, as well as the Durango SRT. More on this triune of Dodge beasts here.
This is welcome news for Wrangler-ites, because it basically means mo’ POWAAAAAAAH! 485 horses worth, to be exact, not to mention the massive hood scoop, which will feed vast amounts of cold air to the V8 #win.
Jeep have previously delivered one-off Wranglers and Gladiators, but never one this powerful. For perspective, current Wrangler and Gladiator models come with 3 engine options: a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four offering 270 ponies, a 3.6L V6 with 15 more ponies than the inline-four, and a turbo-diesel 3.0L V6 giving you a modest 260 steeds.
We don’t yet know much more beyond that, but you can bet Jeep will try and steal Bronco’s thunder this summer. Correction: they WILL steal Bronco’s thunder this summer. Watch out Ford.
